Trees for Benmiller working to replace 225 acres of woodlot destroyed by tornado

HURON COUNTY – Amid the destruction of hundreds of thousands of trees that resulted from a tornado that ripped across parts of Huron County a year ago, the county’s forest conservation officer sees opportunity.

It’s a time to introduce new species that will complement the regrowth on 225 acres of woodland lost by 60 landowners in the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and the Municipality of Central Huron, said David Pullen, who is providing advice to Trees for Benmiller, an effort led by Huron Stewardship Council to raise funds and help plant trees on private woodlots.

“There is unlimited opportunity to restore and enhance and increase the forest cover, but it depends how many groups want to get behind the project and at what level,” he said. (Bullet News Huron, Aug. 21, 2012)
